If a story is a stone that falls into water, I chose to portray the ethereal beauty of the ripple.

If a story is a stone that falls into water, I chose to portray the delicate nature of ripple and its aftermath. I'm really fascinated with independent films; they're usually dramas that take the perspective of a group of minority to depict historical events and society at large. I love the unvarnished visual aesthetics of American indie films like A Woman Under the Influence, Wanda, and Stranger Than Paradise. Apart from that, my early understanding of cinema and the relationship between cinematography and film is also based on the early works of Asian directors such as Yimou Zhang and Karwai Wong. Now I'm greatly influenced by European artistic directors like the Dardenne brothers, Vittorio Storaro, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Alain Renai. After watching their films, I started to enjoy designing long shots as they gave the characters a unique space to wander and reflect on themselves. The early films from Asian filmmakers like Yimou Zhang and Karwai Wong also lays a foundation to my early stage on understanding cinema and the relationship between the cinematography and film.
